• flooding

• sewage back-up from flooding in the area

• plumbing or roof leaks

• damp basement or crawl space

• overflows from sinks or bathtub

• high humidity: steam cooking, dryer vents, humidifiers

mildew and mold will develop within 24-48 hours of water exposure. Even worse, it will continue to grow until steps are taken to eliminate the source of moisture, and effectively deal with the mold problem.

Mold spores spread rapidly on the inside of this wall out of sight of homeowners.

The word strikes fear into many homeowners.  It can come on quickly, many times without any real warning.  That word is the "M" word, Mold!!! It doesn't play favorites it can affect the health of young and old a like, causing issues to the respiratory system and in some cases worse.  How does this happen?  What makes Mold such a worthy advisory to homes around the country is its ability to spread and multiply rapidly.  All it takes is a warm moist environment, which is why most homes in the south have some form of fungal growth. Luckily for Homeowners,  SERVPRO has teams of specialized technicians that are trained in the process of Mold remediation.  They can clean mold in your home and help to create a healthier environment for your entire family.

Green House?

This moldy crawlspace was affecting the air quality in this home. SERVPRO crews where able to clean the affected area.

In Alabama many homes have crawlspaces and basements.  These homes are scattered throughout our neighborhoods and subdivisions, which provide a great place to store Seasonal belongings.  Unfortunately these spaces also create the perfect conditions for mold growth.  Due to the cooler temperatures in these spaces,  warm air that comes in from the outside often cools quickly, causing condensation to cover many of the organic materials in these places.  The combination of moisture and rising temps,  allows mold spores to spread and multiply rapidly.  How does this affect the home owner?  Airflow in a home moves from bottom to top meaning much of the air you breath comes from what is directly under you.  Which means if you have mold in your crawlspace or basement, it is likely affecting the air quality in the living space in your home.  If you have this issue at your home at SERVPRO we can help!!!

Does Your Home Have A Mold Problem?

11/7/2017 (Permalink)

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.
